Irish Mail

It's not only LNER A3's and Deltics which are named after racehorses. "Irish Mail" built in 1903 was named after a horse owned by the owners of the Dinorwic Quarries where she spent her working life.

In retirement she is based at the West Lancashire Railway but was visiting Threlkeld for their steam gala this weekend. With the imposing bulk of Blencathra in the background the Hunslet waits for it's next duty at the engine shed.
