Vickers Valiant B1 (Sort of...)

The nose of the Vickers Valiant B1 'V' Bomber at RAF Cosford Air Museum. This aircraft, No.XD818, dropped Britains first hydrogen bomb off Malden Island, 400 miles south of Christmas Island in the Pacific Ocean. It was painted white to protect it from the nuclear flash.

It was impossible to get a picture of the whole aircraft, so I mounted the camera on the tripod, set the self timer and held it up in the air so it was level with the nose, and hoped for the best. It was still not much of a picture so I "chopped" off the wings and copied it onto a blank sky. It would almost make a friendly childrens cartoon character. A far cry from its intended role.
