Vienna – street scene – Hanuschgasse, Bitzinger Würstelstand & Wiener Staatsoper

In der Gasse – at the Wiener Staatsoper where, on the night before, I had attended a performance of Siegfried by Wagner.

Keeping one's mind on the task at the Bitzinger sausage stand – all you can eat: Bratwurst, Currywurst, Käsekrainer, Burenwurst.

The green hare on the roof is a homage to the Albertina Museum next door, which houses a substantial collection of the works of Albrecht Dürer, including the famous watercolour/bodycolour painting of 1502 – the Young Hare (Feldhase) – with the animal resting in this position.

See also a pink version of the Feldhase in this Flickr post from 2017:

Walking along Hanuschgasse from the Burggarten, past the Staatsoper on our way to the Hotel Sacher. Unlike this gentleman hoeing into it energetically, we were going to sample – in a rather more leisurely fashion – some Sacher Torte. Just for fun, and just to say that we'd done it ... and one other thing.
