Neal Blewett with Escort, Kuwait City, March 1991
This photo taken on a visit to Kuwait in March 1991, just a few days after the fighting stopped. Our visit coincided with the arrival in Kuwait City of Stormin' Norman Schwarzkopf, the US commander of the force which ejected the Iraqis from Kuwait. There was still live ammunition lying around in the streets, and some sniper activity at night.
The blanket of smoke from the burining oil fields was so thick that it was cold (12 deg C) and dark - cars from time time needing their headlights in the middle of the day.
