PATH trains access

Access to the PATH (Port Authority Trans Hudson) rail system inside the Oculus.

The PATH lines run to various stops in Jersey City and Newark via a pair of Downtown Hudson Tubes that run under the Hudson River. The tunnels are about 97 feet below sea level and opened in 1909.

In 2006 the FBI uncovered a plot to detonate explosives that would destroy and flood the tunnel in the PATH's Downtown Hudson Tube.

Our unlimited MTA cards didn't give us access to the PATH system but I later found that if I added $2.75 to my MTA card, the PATH gates would have taken just that portion as a "pay-per-ride" value and let me through. It would have nice to get some photos of this relatively brand new station. Fortunately I found a user on Flickr that posted a lot of photos that let me see what it looks like down there.
