Docked, for the time being
The historic steamboat Delta Queen will be 'temporarily' docked and used as a floating hotel in Chattanooga Tennessee and her fate could turn out to be a permanent move should a federal exemption to carry overnight passengers not be obtained by April. April is when the US Coast Guard performs its annual certificate of inspection on river vessels.
Ambassadors International announced that the Queen will depart New Orleans and cruise to Chattanooga in February. Once there, the vessel will operate as a hotel with provisions to keep the boat cared for and preserved in its current state. Harry Phillips, a businessman with vast maritime experience and in restoring and maintaining historic properties, was picked by the owners of the 176 passenger riverboat as its caretaker.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she will receive the exemption and continue to cruise our waterways as she should be allowed.
