Defending the Standard
On the morning of the 13th September, 1645, at Philiphaugh, near Selkirk in the Scottish Borders the forces of Sir David Leslie's Covenanters met and destroyed the Royalist army of the Marquis of Montrose. Montrose was forced to retreat and with him went the fortunes of the Royalist cause in Scotland.
