New Year's Eve in Suburbia

AAW: Your Community at Night

For this assignment you are tasked with photographing some portion of your village/town/city at night. This will most likely entail some long exposures and thus some means of holding the camera still for a few seconds. Although not excluded, let's see some creativity beyond the usual (but pleasing) long exposure light streaks of head and tail lights.

WIT: I live in a boring place when it comes to the dark part of the day. We went to relatives (including some who came from Germany to spend the holidays in Canada). I excused myself to explore the neighbourhood. It was, ummm.... quiet.

I had wanted to get some star-burst photos and decided that this was a good opportunity. I had some difficulty with deciding on the crop. Should I have gone square to make the star-burst affect more noticeable?

In post, some levels, a crop and straighten and colour correction in ACR.
