Hockley messengers 1953 era.

This is a photo of messengers based at Hockley, near Birmingham during the 1950`s era. They had a fleet of B.S.A.250cc C10 models at that time , which were regulated to a speed of 30m.p.h. The machines were capable of a top speed around 60m.p.h., but the workshop managers were informed to "govern" the carburettors to restrict them to the lower speed owing to avoid any speed related accidents, which was possible with young riders like these messengers were then. I rode one at Grays, Essex, which had also been governed. These 250cc models were being phased out, being replaced with more economical B.S.A. Bantam 125cc ones which were used up to the early 1980`s, when "Puch" mopeds replaced those until the axing of the telegram delivery service shortly afterwards.
