Mick P.
DSC00793: Mick & Robert 1954. At Foxhays Rd Reading.
This photo was taken in 1954. I was staying at this house when transferring from Grays Essex to Reading G.P.O. I had to start working as a messenger here before the rest of my family had the moving date to live back in Reading. ( A council house exchange ) . Mick is on a bicycle that was assembled gradually from just an old black frame given to him by his G.P.O. mate Norman, in Essex. It took some time to complete it all, as all of the remaining new parts were bought from a local cycle shop to complete it. Eventually lights were added which were run from an old dynamo from my dad`s old Hercules bike, which I fitted to the front forks to run a new "Miller" headlight which lit up the dark roads in Essex very well. Street lighting was not installed on many roads back then, only on some main road junctions, which is not the case today.
