DSC00726: 1954: Mick &cousin Robert at Foxhays Road.

I was staying here at my cousin`s council house for a while, as I had transferred to the G.P.O. in my home town before the rest of my family followed on later. My parents had missed living in our home town & our close relations, so the Essex council house was exchanged to one back very near to this one, where this photo was taken. Dad had originally taken a better paid G.P.O. clerical job in Brentwood, passing an exam when he started as a postman in 1952, which is why we had moved to a council house 10 miles from there. He cycled that distance & back daily ! Finally he managed to transfer to another Post Office 3 miles nearer back to this Essex home, where I also worked then. It was not easy to get good well paid jobs back then in 1954. It was only due to Dad` s promotion, that we had moved there, but by us doing so, I had a job for life of 49 years serving with the G.P.O. !
