Hockley messengers 1950`s era.
Hockley messengers with B.S.A. 250cc C10 model motorcycle. ( JLE 183 ) . I used a similar model at Grays Essex in 1953. It was JLE 117, ( A London registration index mark ). It was service expired during 1954, & replaced with a brand new Bantam, (NGJ 580 ), which I used for my telegrams delivery in this area.
Note the leather jerkins & heavy leather gloves supplied to us. The crash helmets were navy blue with white G.P.O transfers. No high visibility vests etc. in those days ! We painted the cuffs of the gloves white, to show up in the dark when using hand signals when riding along.
