Danbury Railway Museum- Grand Central Terminal 1, double-ended wrecker
More from my recent visit to the Danbury Railway Museum, Connecticut. Grand Central Terminal 1- a massive double-ended wrecker built in 1914 specifically for use within the terminal's crowded trackage and tunnels. Powered from the third rail, and also equipped with storage batteries. Unlike an typical steam derrick, the whole cab did not swing, instead just the 100-ton capacity mechanism and boom at each end pivoted. Came to the museum in 1998. Quite a beast!
