Before the Orange Line (now "G" Line) busway... the old SP Burbank Branch, part of which was a former Pacific Electric "Red Car" right-of-way, seen here in 2001. At this point it was still "rail-banked" unused but with the track left in place to deter encroachment. Originally planned as a rail line, local opposition led to changing it to an exclusive busway, which opened in 2005. The Metro G Line improvements project slated to begin in 2024 will provide a major upgrade of the busway including grade separations and crossing gates.
