MSI Model Train Layout -Passing Grand Canyon
A set of six postcards in my collection from the famed "Museum & Santa Fe Railway", which opened at Chicago's Museum of Science & Industry in 1941. Designed and built by Minton Cronkhite, the layout was in place for over 60 years.
Many of us who grew up in Chicago have fond memories of the original layout. Not that there's anything wrong with today's massive HO pike that replaced it, but the classic O gauge layout was really something to behold as a kid.
Given that the original layout must have been the subject of millions of photographs over its 60-year run at the museum, I've found it s surprisingly difficult to find good photos of it (so if you' have any please dig them out and scan them and post them here on Flickr!)
Scott Orr does have a nice blog on the original layout: midnightrailroader.blogspot.com/p/blog-page_27.html
