220kV transformer for Eagle Rock Substation transferred from SP to LA Railway SCE 12-4-22
Holy manual labor Batman! This amazing image from the Southern California Edison's historical collection at the Huntington Library depicts the transloading of two very large transformers for a new substation in 1922. The boys are coaxing the transformer off of a standard gauge Monon flatcar onto a 3 ft 6 inch gauge Los Angeles Railway (the city streetcar system) wooden work flat.
This amazing image and many others from the SCE archives can be found online at the Huntington's site- kudos to the team at the library for their ongoing efforts to digitize these historic images and put them on the internet. This site is really worth spending some time on. Please see: hdl.huntington.org/digital/collection/p16003coll2/id/20361
