Willamette Shore Trolley Jun00 5
The Willamette Shore Trolley used the old freight trackage along the South Waterfront. Here the track passed under a cluster of freeway ramps. The car used a tow-behind generator for power- the crew is actually topping it off in this photo, they had a wayside tank in the fence compound along the tracks.
Today the Portland Streetcar runs here and the area has been transformed by residential development.
Car 813 was built in 1932 as a narrow gauge car for the Portland city streetcar system, and in 1950 was converted to standard gauge for use on the remaining interurban line between Portland and Oregon City. It is owned by the Oregon Electric Railway Historical Society.
