CTA L 6000s Loop 2 Lake
CTA 6000 on the Lake St. leg of the Loop Ca. 1954. Note the sign hanging on the front advertising the connection with the 5:35 departure of a CA&E train. Presumably this photo dates from the brief period 1953-57 during construction of the Congress expressway when CA&E trains terminated at DesPlaines instead of their original Wells St. terminus. The L train seen here on Lake would continue on the inner Loop onto the Wells leg (on which both tracks moved southbound at this time) and then onto the old Met L to DesPlaines where passengers could make the advertised connection.
Dupe slide in my collection. William Hoffman photo from a Shore Line Interurban Historical Society www.shore-line.org/ slide set.
