Step detail- Third Ave Railway 220 P6100128

Car 220 was built in 1892 by the Laclede Car Company as Car 20 for a cable operation on Third Ave from 130th St to City Hall in New York City. In 1899 the car was rebuilt into an electric car, renumbered to car 220 and assigned to the 42nd St. Crosstown line. The car was replaced by a larger car in 1908. From 1908 to 1946 it was renumbered again to work car 33 and used to clean the underground third rail conduits used by street cars in Manhattan. Car 220 came to the Shore Line Trolley Museum at Branford, Connecticut in 1948 as the last of the NYC conduit lines were abandoned.
