LA Junction, Vernon DSCF7129

Today's set of 5 LA Junction (now BNSF) photos detail one of the long industry leads off District Blvd. in Vernon. This one (known as the Horn lead) runs parallel to District and 49th and is still in use to serve the General Mills facility along Maywood Ave. This view looks west from Loma Vista Ave.

Vernon and adjacent areas comprised the "Central Manufacturing District" of Los Angeles, and even today the area is honeycombed with railroad sidings. That said, the number of active rail shippers is not what it once was and little by little the amount of trackage continues to dwindle, so I've been trying to get my pictures while I can.
