CTA 3701 bus under Lake St L 7-88
A CTA Flxible bus under the Lake St. L, July 1988. Built in 1969, this group of buses was 96 inches wide, 6 inches narrower than the standard CTA transit bus, required for working the Route 16 Lake Street run under the L. They were used until 1991. Note the bus stop out in the street between the L columns, something of a throwback to the streetcar era. During the Green Line rebuild project, all of the support columns for the L received new concrete bases (such as the one seen here), reducing the driving lane clearance a wee bit more.
