ESCP Proctology Operative Skills Course
by UCDMedicine
European Society of Coloproctology / Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain & Ireland held a Proctology Operative Skills Training Course at the historic Mater Misericordiae University Hospital on the 20th and 21st May 2016.
Availing of the now de-commissioned operating theatre and ward space of the original Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, the meeting was aimed at senior trainees and established consultants in coloproctology. The meeting featured many talks from experts in the field of coloproctology, as well as many short paper presentations, and two John of Arderne winner presentations.
The meeting investigated the historical aspects of complex surgery (namely ileo-anal pouch surgery and total mesorectal excision). Talks were delivered by the two of the most eminent surgeons in the UK; Professor John Nichols and Professor Bill Heald.
A number of novel areas were addressed by emerging leaders in their field, including Dr Jeremy Nightingale, Mr Ciaran Walsh, Professor Ronan Cahil, Mr Jurgen Mulsow amongst others.
