Palm Springs Visitor Center

One of the great googie structures in Southen California is the Palm Springs Visitor Center on Hwy 111, Designed by Albert Frey & Robson C. Chambers the former Tramway gas station was built in 1965 and has a metal kite-shaped roof that appears to float above the building and it was used for the next twenty years as a gas station........... It sat empty for awhile after the gas station closed until it was re-furbished and used as a art gallery, when that business shut down the property and building was purchased by the City of Palm Springs and in 2003 became the official visitor center location for Palm Springs, Ca. and is also at the entrance to the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway
