Campsite #43

San Onofre State Beach - Campsite #43

(photo taken by stryderphoto)

Here was my home for 4 nights/5 days. I had a blast staying there. There wound up being groups staying next to me most of the time. I met some very cool people and liked the freedom I had. Scott set me up with every, single thing you see here...except my cooler and food. He should start the Stryder Outfitting Co. (hehehe)

This is a unique location really. It's set on part of the Old PCH, that runs along the coast. It dead ends into the Camp Pendleton Marine Base (which you can get on and go on the bike trail that takes you all the way to Oceanside). The capture was taken on a bluff above my campsite. Most locations had the bluffs as a buffer between where people camped with a vista looking out to the ocean or they directly had an ocean view (no bluff).

Some other points of interest:

*HWY 5 is just on the other side of the barrier you see there.

*Railroad tracks are as well, with trains running day and night

*Tanks were going all night long playing "war games" and firing off bombs

*Apache helicopters flew over non-stop

*Cyclists ride through on a constant basis during the day

*Close to food, stores, places to eat, San Mateo camp grounds for showers

This was a great place for me to stay, since I was alone. I never felt alone and was comfortable there...felt safe. I loved being able to wake up and walk up to where I was standing each morning and look out over the water. Ocean view within 10 seconds. I was up there quite often.

I loved my time there and would love to go back with more people. I'm trying to talk my kids into it.

Time to buy a tent!
