Simple Gifts
"Tis the gift to be simple, tis the gift to be free,
Tis the gift to come down where we ought to be.
And when we find ourselves in the place just right,
Twill be in the valley of love and delight."
(Written in 1848 by Joseph Brackett, an Elder in the Shaker community of Gorham, Maine. The song didn't become famous until Aaron Copland wrote it into his "Appalachian Spring" in 1944.)
To me this photo shows the joy to be found in simple gifts - father and daughter, in a small kayak, drifting down by the breakwater in Dana Point. Look at their faces....
(Don't know them, trying out my zoom..)
