Day 9 - Work at Organic Garden - Galapagos 2014 -

by cateyesrsk

Today our work was to prepare a piece of land for organic vegetable gardens. The organic gardens help maintain the lodge and provides income for them so that they can do the tortoise rehabilitation work effectively. Our job was to clear this plot to the bare ground. After some really hard work we were rewarded by being given opportunity and privilege of feeding the tortoises their favorite food (taro). It was a most magical experience. After a scrumptious lunch we then gathered firewood, and fresh fruit, to make marmalade on a campfire. Wilfredo baked some fresh bread for us and we tasted the marmalade. We then had dinner and ended a fulfilling day by spending more quality time with each other sitting around the campfire sipping delicious lemon grass tea (spirit optional).
