“In 1960 before my first trip abroad, I took the first photo for my passport. But the foreign ministry did not approve it. They thought I looked too rustic with those long pigtails. So the photographer remade my hair, put a necklace on me and made me wear a cheongsam. So finally I got this photo instead.”
