Anglo Saxon Crosses

Nineth century crosses in the square in the centre of Sandbach. They seem to have been set up in Sandbach in the late middle ages, and it is uncertain where they came from originally. They were thrown down by iconoclastic fundamentalists in either the sixteenth or seventeenth century: at the time of the reformation or the civil war. The fragments were dispersed around the town. In the early nineteenth century they were reassembled in the square.
