Heuglin's Gull
A Heuglin's Gull at Hirakud Dam Reservoir. Clicked this image from a boat during the annual waterfowl estimation exercise for year 2012-13. Sighting of Heuglin's Gull was a new report by us from the Reservoir area. Hirakud Dam Reservoir is among the largest man-made water bodies on earth, spread over an area of about 800 sq kms. This water body has over the years attracted many migratory birds to its blue waters. Especially the open waters of this reservoir is a favourite haunt for the deep diving ducks such as Great Crested Grebe, Tufted Pochard, Common Pochard, Red Crested Pochard etc.
