Semaphore Survivor.

Looking northwestward at Hellifield station on 23 March 2022 as 70812 heads 6J37, Colas Rail Freight’s 1343 Carlisle Yard - Chirk log train along the up main.

The tail of 6K05 DRS’ 1246 Carlisle Yard - Crewe Basford Hall departmental can be seen occupying the up goods loop.

Hellifield is the most diverse location on the Leeds - Carlisle line regarding mechanical signalling, with but a few of its semaphores in this image. Interesting to note though, that the down loop starting signal (on the right) carried on its stout wooden post has so far survived modern fall protection which would probably foul one or both of the running lines either side of it.
