Iggesund Paperboard Ltd. produce high quality card at their Siddick works in Cumbria and in the 20th century received some of its raw materials and despatched some products by rail freight, using the Port of Workington as a rail/road transfer facility. The wood pulp and timber traffic was lost to rail but the tanks carrying clay and chalk slurries continued into the 21st century.
Over the years many different design of bogie tanks were used on this traffic; parallel cylindrical barrels, double depressed tanks, tapered depressed barrels and like these here, cylindrical depressed barrels. This one is 87 7898 105-4 TOPS code ICA and is being shunted on the Workington Docks branch by EWS owned civil liveried 37098 on 28 February 1997 in the immediate post B.R. era.
