Crossing the Esk viaduct on 31 July 1990, 90010 “275 Railway Squadron (Volunteers)” powers a southbound freight along the up goods line.
This goods line was once very busy – particularly during the evening and night, serving as the up arrival access to Carlisle yard or simply to put through freights onto the avoiding lines through the city. It crossed the main lines near Rockcliffe via a flyover, built in 1963 as part of the fantastic, optimistic installation of the (then) massive Kingmoor Marshalling Yard.
