What is a Equivalent Fraction

What is a Equivalent Fraction Let us look at an example: 3/6 and 2/4 are any two fractions. We convert both of these numbers to lowest form. For this we first find the HCF of 3 and 6 is 3. We divide both the numbers by the HCF i.e. 3. On dividing numerator and denominator of 3/ 6 by 3 we get: = 1/2 Similarly we find the HCF of 2 and 4 is 2. We divide both the numbers by the HCF i.e. 2 On dividing numerator and denominator of 2/4 by 2 we get: = ½. Thus we conclude the two fractions are equivalent. To find the series of equivalent fractions for any given fraction, we go on multiplying both numerator and the denominator by same number.
