Boom_Shelia Hicks 2006

Irma Boom, designer.

Sheila Hicks: Weaving as Metaphor, 2006.

Boom's design for Weaving as Metaphor is a metaphor itself. The opening essay is sandwiched between two of Hicks woven art pieces: a coarse, open thread piece at the begining, and a tight, finer grain piece at the end. Upon begining the essay, the text is set large and thick, whick gradually gives way to the refined tapestry of conventional body text. And in case the reader missed the connection, Boom places the closing fine grained tapestry across from the closing text.
