Sawtooth Milky Way 2023
Spent last weekend introducing our daughter to the wonders of central Idaho while visiting my parents at our family cabin. It was a magical experience being able to show her the things I've been seeing and doing for my entire life. Having the grandparents there also meant we could sneak away for a few hours each evening to do some Milky Way imaging before the core set, something we haven't been able to really do for almost 2 years! Bry did a nice high resolution pano with a 65mm Voigtlander on her Z7 while I've been testing out a Sigma Fp to see if I want to make it my next Milky Way/Nightscape camera. I wasn't able to rent a lens I'm interested in for this camera so I adapted an old Rokinon 35mm I had lying around from years past.
We got some great airglow on this night, well banded and bright. Unfortunately by the time it got truly dark Rho Ophiuchi had already began to set behind the peaks, but the alignment with the core over the central peaks is hard to beat. Unfortunately light pollution from Boise continues to grow and is becoming more prominent over the norther end of the Sawtooths, sad to see considering how well Stanley does at controlling their light pollution.
This is a 9 panel pano, 6 for the sky and 3 for the foreground, using a Rokinon 35mm, f2.8 for the sky and f1.4 for the foreground, on a Sigma Fp, ISO 1250 for all shots, 2 minutes for all shots and a Sky Watcher Star Adventurer Mini tracking mount.
