Utah Astrophotography
Awaken Slumber
Bry and I were down in Kanab last weekend spending a few nights at the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary just outside of town. The sanctuary is in a beautiful canyon with big red rock walls, full of vegetation (and lots of animals!), a perfect setting for some "easy" astrophotography. Despite being just 6 miles from town the skies are spectacularly dark, just a small amount of light pollution along the horizon. The first night we were there I decided to put to use my astro cam setup, an ASI2600mc Pro and Voigtlander 50mm APO, I need to dial in some tilt issues but overall it worked out well with the ASIAir controlling both the camera and mount (Sky Watcher AZ-GTi). Going forward I plan on using this setup to accomplish a very high resolution tracked and stacked mosaic of the Milky Way core region. A good initial run with the Sony E-mount lens on a 3D printed adapter for the camera! Now I just need to dial in some tilt and I think everything will be ready to go for the full mosaic.
Sky is a stack of 20 exposures, 10 x 30 seconds and 10 x 45 seconds at gain 100 at f2.8. Foreground is a single image, 2 minutes at gain 100 and f2.
