Inner Mani, Keria, 13th C. Church of St John: Roman marble slab

The tetrastyle cruciform Church of St John is a good example of its 13th C. type, made particularly interesting by the incorporation in its walls of many earlier carved marble slabs and sculptured reliefs.

One man and his dog: a marble relief in the W wall.,

[A Graeco-Roman tombstone with four standing figures was also set in the W. wall, but sadly it was stolen in 2001. It is illustrated in Greenhalgh & Eliopoulos book, "Deep into Mani", published by Faber and Faber 1985].
