Inner Mani, Keria, 13th C. Church of St John: early floral crosses

The tetrastyle cruciform Church of St John is a good example of its 13th C. type, made particularly interesting by the incorporation in its walls of many ancient carved marble slabs and sculptured reliefs.

Two early Christian marble slabs with elaborate floriated crosses on the S. side.

[A Graeco-Roman tombstone with four standing figures was also set in the W. wall, but sadly it was stolen in 2001. I will attach a picture of it (next photo) , from the Greenhalgh & Eliopoulos book, "Deep into Mani", 1985]
