Albania, Saranda, (Sarandë), view across the bay
The busy town and popular holiday resort on the Riviera coast of Albania is just eight miles across the channel from Corfu. The name Saranda (Greek σαράντα, meaning forty) comes from a nearby Byzantine monastery Άγιοι σαράντα named from forty Christians martyred for their faith in the early 4th C.
