Wrapped up in white cotton sheets I spent a star filled December deep blue night in a hotel in Livingston, Montana. Woke up at the break of dawn, excited to hike in the Gallatin National Forest, surrounded by waterfalls, lakes, rivers and countless trees. Bursting with energy to live another day. On this beautiful Sunday I had two goals: Photograph an angel with the forest in the background, and hike to Pine Creek Lake. The beginning of the hike to Pine Creek Falls is an easy delight, every step dancing closer to a waterfall symphony, the rest is considered difficult, not recommended in the month of December. I calculated that it would take me eight hours to accomplish my goal. Within the first two hours I had found my location, composed and captured the image you are viewing. I hung my wings on a branch with a note attached: “Hiking to the lake. Will pick up my wings on the way down. -Angel”

Even angels sometimes can’t get to where they would give their all to be, because when light fades they too can’t see.

Until this point all was easy. Without wings it all changed, the nature of the trail changed dramatically. An easy stroll turned into a steep climb with sounds of streaming water bellow and a snow covered trail no longer visible. Although Pine Creek Lake is only four miles from this point, the trail climbs 3,000 feet. From where I was standing I couldn’t see but sense the still cold blue lake, and the promise of an endless view of Paradise Valley kept me going. Now, eight hours into this continues hike, as dusk settled on earth and the sky was painted red, the sun setting behind the glittering snow covered mountain peak , gradually ending the day, with her last breath of warm golden rays she whispered:

‘Oh, how I wish I could live on earth, and gather with family around the warm hearth. To taste pure water running down my throat. To sail the world in a beautiful boat. To breathe the crisp air, feel the wind blow in my hair. Oh, how I wish I could live on earth, with all the people there.’

It was time to find my way back, determined to return in spring. I looked up to the ever changing sky, an inspiring canvas to artists around the world, and my thoughts drifted:

'Art does not discriminate. Anyone can create it, anyone can see it, and the best is felt by all.' So, spread your wings -fly. Make your dreams come true. I can barely hold my excitement for 2018.

Thank you for all the support and kindness you’ve so generously given to me this passed year. I wish each and every one of you a wonderful holiday season and an exciting creative New Year.
