Back in October 2013, I made my only trip to the Big South Fork. My photo club had an outing, and after it was over, I planned to possibly hit a few spots and work my way up to Cumberland Falls for the moonbow that night. Fall foliage was quite disappointing considering it was the third week in October and the river was somewhat low. As I was making my way back up to Cumberland Falls for the moonbow, I decided to stop by Yahoo Falls to see how it was flowing. I wasn't expecting much considering the season, but was pleasantly surprised when I got to the falls. Nothing spectacular, but more than I had expected. And I didn't bother to carry my camera in. Big mistake. I went back and got my camera, hiked back to the falls to get some shots, and then stopped by the overlooks before heading up to Cumberland Falls. By making two trips to Yahoo Falls instead of one, I just missed what would've been a much more dramatic sunset than what was there when I got to this overlook. Still not a bad scene.
But the whole trip to Yahoo Falls was not in vain. Because on the way in (the first time) I saw a bald eagle for the first time in my life. Well worth stopping by.
