Tomato
Angiosperms. The word Angiosperm is from the Greek words Angio meaning cloaked and sperm meaning seed. Angiosperms are flowering plants that have evolved from gymnosperms. Angiosperms reproduce by making seeds that are encased in an outer coat that helps the seeds from drying out. Fertilization of these types of plants can occur with in a few hours. Because of the fast reproductive system angiosperm plants are more dominant than gymnosperms. Angiosperms are further broken down into two groups; monocots and dicots.
Seeds. The seeds of the tomato are revolutionary because it was the invention of the gymnosperm but it was perfected by the angiosperm. Seeds are the perfect package. They are made for dispersal as well as storage. They are water resistant, and germinate quickly when they have the right requirements of light, water and temperature. Inside the seed the embryo sends a hormonal message to the alurone layer to release enzymes. When the enzymes are released the endosperm breaks down starches into glucose. The glucose is then used by the embryo for energy for the seed to grow.
Properties of water. The droplet of water that is collected on the tomato shows surface tension of the water molecule. The dome like shape of the water droplet is created by surface tension. Surface tension is the product of cohesions and adhesion of water molecules. Cohesion is when water molecules are able to stick to each other because of hydrogen bonds. Adhesion is when water molecules stick to other things also due to hydrogen bonds. Hydrogen bonds are a result of polarity in water molecules. This is what gives water its special properties. Hydrogen bonds are temporary, flexible and weak.
