6 February 2022 - 70 years since the King died
I was six and in bed with measles or something. A little wireless set had been left on in my bedroom, but I was not to touch it under any circumstances. So when it said the King had died and then suspended broadcasting to respect such a solemn occasion, naturally I didn't touch it. When my Mum came in I got a telling off for silencing the wireless, and when I managed to explain why it was silent, she was even more upset. The King's example had meant a lot to people who lived through the war in Britain.
I have used the image on a biscuit tin that was in our house as I grew up. I still have it in our kitchen. It has his Queen and the two little princesses on the other sides.
