Reflections, Samye Ling (explored no 296 021213)
Whilst stopping with my friends this weekend, we took a drive up to the local monastery for a spot of relaxation and quiet. This beautiful place is tranquil and a testament to the hard work given by those who not only founded it, but by those who run, and attend it. All visitors are made welcome, and there is a shop and tea rooms if you wish.
This was my third visit, on this occasion it was freezing, but calm.
The statue in the lake with a snake rising above it is Nagarjuna, the forefather of the Madyamika school of philosophy, which forms the basis of the Karma Kagyu view of emptiness. According to Buddhist legend, Nagarjuna discovered the Prajnaparamita teachings that had been entrusted to the nagas for safekeeping.
