ZINOVIA AMPARIOTI
Flat surface versus trompe l' oeil effect (1)
Part of my extended essay, title: how has digital printing for textiles changed the course of fashion design with particular reference to Mary Katrantzou?
Here I have investigated the effect that ‘trompe l’oeil’ has on the surface of the fabric, and how such illusionistic effects were un-thought of in the past. I have examined different ‘trompe l’oeil’ paintings throughout the history of art in an attempt to understand their continued popularity. I have also shown how difficult it was for designers of previous eras to depict these illusionistic effects in their designs because of technical limitations. I also refer to designs printed using digital printing and more specifically to Mary Katrantzou’s dress designs using ‘trompe l’oeil’ interiors.
