the myth of ur, ananke explains,

for necessity is not to be enjoyed.

but if we swim under her throne,

we might enjoy in dribs and drabs,

make a story of it, and, maybe, maybe

remember a shred of it, the nasty bits

recede and the exertions

almost become the muscles of

the small-celled animals

who cherish the promise

of almost anything, starting with survival,

the three squares for the rest of us.
