Silver Studded Blue emerging male with attendant ants

A freshly emerging male SS Blue tended by the Black Garden Ants (Lasius niger). Photographed in late June.

 

I am happy to admit a similar (but lot better!) image by Iain Leach last year of an emerging SS Blue and the attendant ants got me hooked on to macro photography.

 

I love this photo. But I enjoyed witnessing this spectacle even more !
