Red Racer Pt. 17.
After the new Trickster was taken into custody by the police, things have kinda slowed down here in Keystone. It feels weird because before Barry died I didn’t really run that much. The weeks following his death I couldn’t stop running. I always had to be doing something to keep my mind off of everything. I definitely went a little too Batman and broke a few more bones than I needed to. That never feels right. Even if they really deserve it, I’ve never liked hurting anybody to get answers. Barry never really did so I feel like I shouldn’t either. I don’t know, it was just quicker to get answers from people.
Thanks to the lack of major crime that I feel I need to get involved in I finally got caught up in my work. The officers of the KCPD kinda depend on me when it comes to fixing their cares quickly. Well they also have the other mechanics here but I’ve got the title as the fastest mechanic in the KCPD. My speed force abilities may or may not have something to do with that.
“Wally!”
Just when I thought things were going to be quiet around here, Commissioner Bellows steps into the garage. I quickly role out from under the car I’m working on and stand up to meet the Commissioner.
”What’s up commish?”
“I know you and Hunter were good pals.” He pauses as he grabs out a small envelope from his pocket. “I found this in his stuff. It was addressed to you. Guess he never got the chance to give it to you.”
”Thank you.” I say as I take the note. I begin to open it but I’m stopped as the Commissioner grabs my hand.
“I’d open it up after work, son.”
”Okay.”
As the work day winds down, I grab my bag and begin the walk to my car. I get to my car and I hear footsteps behind me.
“Hey, you’re Wally West, right?” The voice sounds familiar but I can’t place it. I turn around and I’m met with a familiar face.
”Yes, and you are?” I ask just to not throw suspicion my way.
“I’m August Heart, I just transferred here from Central City.”
”Ah, how was the move?”
“Good… Well not really. It was slow. I wish I had Flash’s powers.”
”Don’t we all?”
“I actually met him last night.”
”Really?”
“Yeah, he was diffusing a bomb inside the Commissioner’s old office. It sounds weird, I know, but trust me it happened. No one seems to believe me around here.”
”I believe you.”
“Really?”
”Yeah, why not? Anyways, it was good chatting again.” ‘Again?’ Really Wally? You were doing so well.
“I’ll see you around.” August replies. I don’t think he noticed my mess up. Good the last thing I need is to accidentally reveal my identity to some new cop.
