La anomenada Porta Palatina és la resta més important dels origens romans de Torí (Torino), la ciutat romana de Iulia Augusta Taurinorum. Data d'època d'August, i aleshores el seu nom deuria ser Porta Principalis Dextra, i mirava al nord. Porta Palatina sembla ser un nom medieval, vinculat a la presencia d'un palau proper. De les altres quatre portes, una cap a cada punt cardinal, només es conserva parcialment la del est, formant part del gotic i barroc Palazzo Madama.
De fet, aquestes portes no tenien originariament una funció defensiva, sino especialment de representació així com de separació entre el espai urbà i el agrari.

The so-called Porta Palatina is the most important remnant of the Roman origins of Turin (Torino), the Roman city of Iulia Augusta Taurinorum. It dates from the time of Augustus, and then its name should have been Porta Principalis Dextra, and it faced the north. Porta Palatina seems to be a medieval name, linked to the presence of a nearby palace. Of the other four doors, one towards each cardinal point, only the eastern one is partially preserved, forming part of the Gothic and Baroque Palazzo Madama.
In fact, these gates did not originally have a defensive function, but served as for representation as well as separation between urban and agricultural space.
