Les dues torres... diferents / Two (dissimilar) towers

IN ENGLISH BELOW THE LINE

=====================================

Wawel Castle has been the historic center of Poland since the beginning of the Middle Ages. It was during much of the country's history the residence of the kings, making Krakow the capital, until they moved to Warsaw in 1596. The whole fortress is like layers and more layers of history one on top of the other, both defensive (walls and towers), political (the castle as a residence) and religious (the cathedral and many other churches, most now in ruins).

The darkest periods of Poland's history are also part of it, since Governor General Hans Frank settled there during the Nazi German occupation between 1939 and 1945.
